At Fiji Kava we go by the saying that ‘Not all Kavas are equal’. In the world of Kava there are two types; Noble and non-noble. Non-noble kava is often called Tudei Kava (pronounced two-day). In Fiji, only Noble kava can be found and has been traditionally used for regular consumption. Noble Kava’s favourable composition of kavalactones and chemical makeup gives it a pleasant soothing effect, whilst producing less negative side effects – such as nausea and hangovers.
Tudei Kava is traditionally found in areas of the Pacific such as Vanuatu. Whilst the Tudei Kava variety matures at a faster rate than Noble Kava (1 year vs 5 years), concern remains regarding the high concentration of harmful flavokavains are found in the composition of Tudei Kava. The flavokavains found in the widely used Tudei Cultivars, are known to cause problems for those consuming it. A key area of concern is the liver toxicity observed among the consumers of Tudei Kava in Europe.
Why Noble + Fresh water Extraction?
At Fiji Kava, we only produce Noble Kava Products: Powders, Capsules, and Shots with Fresh water extraction methods. A true and trusted method for thousands of years with Noble Kava in Fiji. Extracting the Kava root by fresh water methods gives a consistent effect and also ensures there are no negative side effects caused by the addition of harmful chemicals, such as ethanol. We follow a water extraction method of Noble Kava, as opposed to ethanol extraction and mixing varieties of kava, because we know with this method there are little to no long term side effects.
Fresh Noble Kava Root is 80% water.
Dried Noble Kava Root is made up of 43% starch, 20% dietary fibre, 15% kavalactones, 12% water, 3.2% sugars, 3.6% protein and 3.2% minerals.
